Super Mario Run is coming exclusively built in Unity game engine

Very soon after Nintendo’s announcement of its first-time mobile debut on Apple’s iOS with Super Mario Run on 7th of September, 2016, Nintendo also decleared it has chosen Unity as the secret game engine for its most anticipated mobile game, Super Mario Run on 1st November, 2016. Nintendo mostly developed games for its own hardware, but with the new smartphone games coming out, it seems the company will be branching out a bit.In addition to Super Mario Run, Nintendo-related mobile game, Pokemon Go, one of the summer’s biggest blockbuster, was also developed in Unity.

Unity has also shared on twitter, “We are thrilled that the legendary creators @NintendoAmerica are bringing Mario to mobile for the first time, and it's #madewithunity.”

Of all the common engines used in the game industry, few are used as often as Unity. Though it may not satisfy every game developer’s needs, the engine is scalable and easy to grasp which makes it a popular choice among indie developers. Unity’s software is used in developing console games, computer games and also games for mobile devices, virtual-reality, and augmented reality headsets. It is shaping a booming global games’ market and user retention and analytics services.Unity engine is far and away the dominant global game development software. More games are made with Unity than with any other game technology. More players play games made with Unity and more developers rely on their tools and services to drive their business.Importantly, Unity says they had 4 million total registered users as of 2015. This makes much sense that Nintendo has taken the right decision with Super Mario Run game.

One important note is that this announcement perhaps indicates the future Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing games may take advantage of the Unity engine as well. Beyond that, it also leaves the door open for Super Mario Run to appear on numerous other devices and platforms.
